01/ Overview
The route
Just under five kilometres, almost 800 metres of ascent: From Seebodenalp, this summit hike climbs through mountain forest and across alpine pastures to Rigi Kulm, with sweeping views over Central Switzerland and the Swiss Plateau.
From the Seebodenalp mountain station, the trail begins climbing almost immediately. It initially crosses open alpine pastures before entering the mountain forest. At Rütlersplangg, the mountain trail steepens sharply; almost 800 metres of ascent must be tackled over the nearly five kilometres to the summit.
Higher up, sections of forest alternate with open slopes. At Gruebi im Düssen there is a covered barbecue site, before the route continues towards Rigi Staffel on a broader hiking trail. With every step, the panorama across Central Switzerland and the Swiss Plateau opens up.
Shortly before the destination, the Regina Montium mountain chapel stands beside the trail. Next comes the Rigi Kulm Hotel, which opened in 1816 and lies immediately below the summit. After a little over two hours, the route reaches the summit of Rigi Kulm at around 1,800 m; the station of the same name for the cogwheel railway descent is around 170 m away.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
