01/ Overview
The route
This hike leads to the far west of Geneva, to the westernmost region of Switzerland and to the famous border stone no.1. Along the Rhone, on winding forest paths and across fields with avenues of trees, it offers a sample of typical Geneva landscapes.
From the Chancy, village bus stop, an approximately eleven-kilometre circular hike leads through woodland and open meadows around Chancy. Following yellow waymarked hiking trails, the route leaves the village and soon enters the forest. After just under two kilometres, it passes directly by the Castrum Romain. The trail then descends at first before gradually gaining height again in a gentle series of ups and downs.
Around halfway, the route reaches its highest point near the Signal de Bernex at approximately 430 m. Beyond this, open meadows characterise the rest of the walk, and the return route gradually turns back towards Chancy. It leads through Champlong and Le Cannelet before returning to the village. After just over three hours and around 300 metres of ascent, the circuit ends back at the Chancy, village bus stop.

How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
