01/ Overview
The route
The hike from Geneva to La Plaine has some surprises in store: the natural beauty of the Rhone and the Moulin-de-Vert nature reserve as well as the charming villages of Cartigny and Avully.
From the Genève, Jonction stop, the hiking trail leads out of the city. At first, the Café de la Tour and the Chapelle Ange-de-la-Consolation stand directly along the route. The houses soon recede, and stretches of woodland and open meadows characterise the trail as far as Loëx.
The route continues through the gently undulating countryside via Aigues-Vertes and Chèvres into Geneva’s rural surroundings. After around four hours, it reaches Aire-la-Ville. Here, the Café du Levant and the church stand directly along the route; beyond them, fields, woodland and more villages alternate.
Near Cartigny, the highest point of the 20 km hike lies at around 430 m. The route passes through the village and by the Fontaine des Filles before descending via Avully to La Plaine. After a little over five hours, the hike ends just a few steps from the La Plaine stop.
