01/ Overview
The route
From the forest at Fräkmüntegg, this short, steep mountain hike leads up via Klimsensattel to Pilatus Kulm, with rocky steps and sweeping views of the Central Swiss Alps.
The panorama gondola carries hikers from Kriens to Fräkmüntegg, where this mountain hike of just under four kilometres begins. Initially, a broad hiking trail leads gently downhill through forest and across open pastures. At Alp Ober Lauelen, the route turns onto the mountainside; after crossing a stream, the white-red-white marked mountain trail becomes considerably steeper.
The route climbs steeply along Heitertannliweg to Klimsensattel. Rocky steps require care as sweeping views of the Central Swiss Alps open up. Near the saddle, the neo-Gothic Klimsenkapelle stands at around 1,860 m. It was consecrated in 1861 and once belonged to Hotel Klimsenhorn, which was later demolished.
Beyond Chriesiloch, the mountain trail once again gains height rapidly. Alpine plants line the steep final ascent over open slopes and rocky steps. Shortly before the destination, the route reaches its highest point at around 2,090 m, after which it is only a few more steps to the mountain station and the Panoramagrill on Pilatus Kulm.
