01/ Overview
The route
From the slopes of Pilatus down into Eigenthal: this short hike crosses open Alpine pastures and woodland, passing Unterlauelen and following the Rümlig for a short stretch.
From the Fräkmüntegg stop, the trail climbs briefly across open terrain. After just a few minutes, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,440 m, in the Pilatus massif not far from the Klimsenhorn. The long descent then begins. The mountain trail leads via Lauelenegg to the Ober Lauelen alp and continues down the valley, with views of the surrounding peaks opening up along the way.
At Unterlauelen, the route passes the Alpine inn. Soon it follows the Rümlig mountain stream for a short stretch, before the open pastures increasingly give way to forest near Buchsteg. Several barbecue sites lie along this section of the valley. The trail continues downhill almost throughout and, towards the end, emerges from the forest again on easier paths.
Shortly before the valley floor, the Lindenstübli lies beside the trail. A little later, the hike ends in Eigenthal at the foot of Pilatus, right by the Eigenthal, Talboden PostBus stop.
