01/ Overview
The route
This six-day tour leads from Mount Pilatus via the geographic centre of Switzerland to Melchsee-Frutt and the Stanserhorn, always at lofty heights with fantastic views of countless Alpine peaks and dozens of mountain lakes.
The route begins at Pilatus Kulm. For the first few kilometres, it traverses the rocky Pilatus massif before open pastures and long stretches of forest set the rhythm. Mountain paths mostly follow the high ground; near Langis, the terrain becomes gentler before the route continues to Brünigpass. The pass links the Haslital with the Sarneraatal.
From the top of the pass, the route climbs out of the forests once more. Via Älggi, it continues into the Sachsler Seefeld, where Seefeldsee lies directly beside the trail. Shortly afterwards, near Abgschütz, the long high-level route reaches its highest point at around 2,230 m. This lofty middle section is characterised by alternating Alpine pastures, rocky ridges and short descents.
At Melchsee, the trail follows the shore of the dammed mountain lake directly to Melchsee-Frutt. The long stretch northwards then begins, at times close to the Bettenalpbach and later passing Schluchberg. The final mountain path leads across open heights and wooded slopes to Stanserhorn.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
There may be snow on this hiking trail. Bring appropriate gear and plan accordingly.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
