01/ Overview
The route
A well-secured high-level trail leads from Pilatus-Kulm through rocky terrain to the massif’s highest summit. Information panels on plants, alpine flowers and sweeping mountain views accompany the ascent.
Pilatus-Kulm can be reached from Kriens by gondola and aerial cableway or from Alpnachstad by cogwheel railway. Hotel Pilatus-Kulm stands just a few steps from the starting point. From there, the well-secured mountain trail continues gently up and down across rocky slopes and open alpine meadows. Information panels along the Flower Trail introduce alpine species, along with their flower colours and flowering seasons. With a little luck, ibex can be spotted on the rock faces.
After a small dip, the trail begins to climb more noticeably. Tomlishorn remains straight ahead, while a panoramic view of the Alps opens up along the ridge. The route, just under 1.5 kilometres long, takes around 40 minutes and involves a total ascent of approximately 150 metres. At 2,128 metres, Tomlishorn is the highest point in the Pilatus massif and a scenic destination. The route ends directly on the summit; the nearest public transport stop, Pilatus Kulm, is around 1.3 kilometres away.

How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
