01/ Overview
The route
From Lucerne’s Seetal valley, the route crosses meadows and passes through the Sulzerwald forest to the Lindenberg. Along the way are the Horben mountain inn, the panorama at the Alpenzeiger and views of Lake Baldegg.
From Gelfingen railway station, the hiking trail leads through the village and uphill above Lake Baldegg. Schloss Heidegg lies close to the route, high above the lake. Above Hitzkirch, the route leaves the built-up area behind, and meadows and pastures now dominate the scenery. The ascent to Müswangen is the steepest section of the hike.
Above the village, the route continues onto the Lindenberg. After around seven kilometres, the trail reaches its highest point at about 860 m. It crosses open uplands and passes through the Sulzerwald forest to the Horben mountain inn, which serves meals and desserts. At the Alpenzeiger, a panoramic view opens up before the route begins its descent via Oberillau.
Near Lieli lies the Ruine Nünegg, a nine-sided hilltop castle with a viewing platform. The trail then steadily loses altitude via Kleinwangen and Ferren. The final kilometres lead back into the Seetal valley, through Baldegg and, with views of Lake Baldegg, to Baldegg railway station.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
