01/ Overview

The route

This Seetal circuit leads across meadows and through forests onto the Lindenberg. An alpine farm restaurant, a castle ruin and a château provide distinctive highlights along the way.

From Hitzkirch railway station, the hiking trail initially passes through the village before climbing across meadows to Müswangen. Open pastures and stretches of woodland then alternate. On the ridge of the Lindenberg, the circuit reaches its highest point at around 860 m. A little further on, the Horben alpine farm restaurant offers regional dishes and desserts; from the Horben plateau, the view extends far across the Seetal.

The route descends via Oberillau to Lieli. A short detour leads to the ruins of Nünegg, a nine-sided hilltop castle with a viewing platform. The trail then continues downhill to Schloss Heidegg, set high above the Baldeggersee in a protected park and cultural landscape. The rose garden and the two wineries, Heidegg and Kaiserspan, add their own distinctive touches. Towards the end, the Siebenbrüggliweg leads through the lower reaches of the Seetal, returning to the houses of Hitzkirch and the railway station.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
