Gemsweg Saas-Fee

Hiking across the mountainsides of the Mischabel range and along the spectacular glacier landscape with panoramic views. Continuing from the shore of glacial lake to the Gletschergrotte restaurant and following the historic Bodmerwasser channel back to Saas-Fee.

The hike begins at the Hannig stop, just a few steps from the mountain restaurant. At around 2,340 m, this is already the highest point of the route. From here, the mountain path crosses open pastures and increasingly rocky terrain. The direction is clear: down to Saas-Fee, though short uphill sections add variety along the way.

After the open high-level section, the path enters the forest. About two-thirds of the way along, the Gletschergrotte stands directly on the route and makes a good place for a break. The mountain path then becomes a yellow-waymarked hiking trail, continuing downhill through the forest.

Towards the end, the first houses herald the approach to Saas-Fee. The path passes the Reformed church and ends shortly afterwards in the village; the bus terminal is only a few steps away. A little over two hours should be allowed for the eight kilometres, with around 180 metres of ascent and 720 metres of descent.
