01/ Overview
The route
This hiking path on the sunny side of the upper Rhone Valley offers fantastic views of the snow-capped peaks of the 4000 m mountains in the Valais. The trails meander through the fascinating landscape of the Obergoms with flower-covered meadows and fragrant larch forests.
The roughly twelve-kilometre hike begins at the Oberwald stop. After a short section through the village, the broad track becomes a mountain hiking trail. It climbs through open meadows and pastures, interspersed with stretches of woodland. In total, around 660 metres of ascent must be tackled.
About halfway along, the route reaches its highest point near Hireli at around 1,730 m. The mountain trail then continues towards Münster in a steady succession of ascents and descents. This section is likewise characterised by a mixture of open terrain and woodland, while the long descent is pleasantly spread over several kilometres.
Towards the end, the trail broadens again and reaches the first houses of Münster. The route passes the chapel of St. Peter and, shortly afterwards, arrives at its destination in the village. The Münster VS stop is only a few steps away. A little over four hours should be allowed for the entire hike.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
