01/ Overview
The route
Pleasant hike on Urschnen high-level trail along stony south-eastern slopes above Urserental. Views down to Realp and Hospental, pass road and historic Furka steam railway. En route: tiny lakes, Alpine flowers, mountain streams and jagged cliffs.
The hike begins at the Furka Passhöhe stop at 2,429 m. The pass connects the Urserental with the Goms and lies on the watershed between the North Sea and the Mediterranean. Shortly after setting out, the route reaches its highest point at around 2,460 m.
The route follows a mountain hiking trail almost throughout. It leads eastwards across open slopes in a steady succession of ascents and descents, while losing considerable elevation overall. Rocky sections alternate with broad alpine pastures. Tiefenbach is reached after just over six kilometres, followed shortly afterwards by Tätsch. The high-level route then continues along the valley slopes of the Urserental. Despite the considerable overall descent, the various climbs along the way add up to around 880 metres of ascent.
Towards the end, the trail descends to Andermatt and becomes an easier hiking trail for the final section. After around 23 kilometres and just over seven hours, the hike ends near the Andermatt, Tourist Info stop.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
There may be snow on this hiking trail. Bring appropriate gear and plan accordingly.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
