01/ Overview
The route
Long-distance hike along the Bern-Luzern border, in six stages through Emmental and Entlebuch, up the Brienzer Rothorn and on to the Brünigpass. En route: many activities and information on history, culture and landscape of the border region.
The approximately 115-kilometre long-distance hike begins at Langenthal railway station. Initially following the Langete on gentle paths, it passes through a mosaic of settlements, open meadows and woodland. Beyond Huttwil, the hills become more pronounced and the ascents longer. The trail crosses the wooded Änzisattel before reaching the 1,406-metre Napf and its mountain restaurant.
After the descent to Trubschachen, the steady succession of ups and downs continues towards Marbach. From Marbachegg, a mountain trail descends to Kemmeribodenbad. The character of the route now changes markedly: the Prealps draw closer, and the trail climbs across open pastures and up steeper mountain paths.
Near the Brienzer Rothorn, the route reaches its highest point at around 2,330 metres. It then remains in mountain terrain for some time before the descent to Brünigpass begins. After just over 40 hours of walking time, the tour ends at the Brünig-Hasliberg stop.
