Grenzpfad Napfbergland, Stage 2/6

From Huttwil, the hike leads to the highest vantage point between the Emmental and Entlebuch. In the typical landscape of the Napf region, one hill follows another, often with a single tree on top. From the hillcrest, the views extend to the Jura chain, the Bernese and Central Swiss Alps.

From Huttwil railway station, the yellow-waymarked hiking trail leads out of the village. It climbs across meadows and pastures to Hitzenberg, before alternating between open high ground and longer stretches of forest. The ascent remains steady for much of the way, with around 1,300 metres of elevation gain over the 20 kilometres.

The trail continues in gentle undulations across the wooded ridges of the Napfbergland. By Hinder Scheidegg, considerable height has already been gained. The route then leads between clearings and forest to Änzisattel. A little further on, the Niederenzi inn stands directly beside the trail, offering a possible rest stop before the final ascent.

The trail steepens again in the final section. Passing Eyflue, it climbs to the Napf, the highest summit in the Napfbergland. The hike of just over six and a half hours ends at an elevation of just over 1,400 metres. The destination is not served by public transport; the nearest stop, Mettlenalp (Napf), is around 1.2 kilometres away.
