01/ Overview
The route
Between Zell and Huttwil, the trail follows in the footsteps of pilgrims on the Way of St James through gently rolling countryside. Meadows, stretches of woodland and sweeping views accompany the route via Ufhusen.
The hike begins at Zell railway station, following in the footsteps of pilgrims on the Way of St James. The yellow-waymarked trail leads out of the village and climbs between meadows and stretches of woodland into the gently rolling countryside. It continues via Oberwil towards Ufhusen, with sweeping views across the hills along the way.
In Ufhusen, the route crosses the Grenzpfad, which links Langenthal with Brünig. The Chirchwäldli barbecue area then provides an opportunity for a rest. The trail continues to rise and fall through open meadows and short stretches of woodland. After around eight kilometres, it reaches its highest point at approximately 740 metres; with a total ascent of around 300 metres, the climb remains moderate.
Via Ziegelacker and Uech, the route gradually descends towards Huttwil. At the first houses, the Hirtestube stands directly beside the trail, while the Bruder Klaus Church is set slightly apart. The final section leads through Huttwil to the railway station, which is reached after around three and a half hours.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
