01/ Overview
The route
From Zell railway station, the hike follows meadow and forest paths to a panoramic ridge in the Napf hills. Rest areas and the Churzhubelegg fire pit line the route before it descends to Luthern.
The hike through the Napf hills, lasting around three and three-quarter hours, begins at Zell railway station. Beyond the houses, the trail climbs via Oberwil to the ridge. Meadows and pastures initially dominate the landscape, interspersed with stretches through woodland, mostly on unpaved paths. Passing the St. Jakobkapelle Bösegg and crossing Chrüzstiegen, the route continues towards Buchwald in a steady succession of ascents and descents.
Higher up, open ridges and woodland alternate. At Churzhubelegg, a fire pit provides an opportunity for a break; provisions need to be carried, as there are no places to eat along the way. The highest point comes only in the final part of the route, at around 910 m near Ämmehorn. From there, the hiking trail descends through meadows and woodland to Luthern. The hike ends in the village at Gasthof Krone; the Luthern, Dorf bus stop is around 100 m away.

How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
