01/ Overview
The route
The winter hiking trail first takes you through the village before running along packed sections and marked field paths. Along the way, you can enjoy a wonderful view towards the Hochalp and the Säntis; from the Rigelschwendi hill and the ski house the view extends as far as Lake Constance in good weather.
The signposted winter hiking trail starts at the Hemberg, Dorf bus stop in the heart of the village. Near the Protestant church, the circular route leaves the houses behind and climbs across open meadows and pastures. Stretches of woodland punctuate the open landscape; over the seven kilometres, around 260 metres of elevation gain must be tackled.
The ascent continues through the middle section. After just over four kilometres, the route reaches its highest point near Gössigenhöchi at around 1,130 m. Shortly afterwards, it passes the Bergrestaurant Skihaus before turning downhill.
The route returns towards Hemberg via Eggli, a viewpoint in the final third. Before long, the first houses draw closer again. Shortly before the finish, the circular route passes the Catholic Church of St John the Baptist and, after just over two and a half hours, ends back at the Hemberg, Dorf bus stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Winter hiking is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
