Winterwanderweg Wolzenalp–Nesslau

Trudge downhill on the sunny side, through the enchanting, silent landscape of Wolzenalp. Views of the Alpstein and Toggenburg mountains are your constant companions along the groomed trail.

From the Rietbach bus stop, the winter hike initially crosses open countryside. A short ascent soon brings the route to its highest point at around 1,140 m; the Laufenweidspitz itself remains well off the route. The trail then turns downhill, winding through meadows and pastures, in places alongside wet ground. Open slopes and short stretches of woodland alternate on the longer descent. With only a few brief uphill sections, the route now steadily loses elevation.

Further down, the forest draws closer and the rolling landscape gradually merges into the valley floor. Near Nesslau, the route passes directly by the Inselikapelle chapel. Shortly afterwards, the first houses appear; the winter hiking trail continues through the village and passes Restaurant Thurbeck towards the end. After around six kilometres and just under two hours, the hike ends in Nesslau-Neu St. Johann at the public transport stop of the same name.
