Toggenburger Sagenweg

The winter hiking path over Alp Sellamatt leads through the fabulous natural landscape in the bosom of Churfirsten. The view reaches far down into Thur Valley and the sea of fog, which is in winter often spreading over the lowland. Boards at the wayside tell legends from Toggenburg.

The approximately nine-kilometre winter circuit begins directly at the Alp Sellamatt stop. From Berggasthaus Sellamatt, the route heads out onto open alpine pastures. Climbing gently, it leaves the buildings behind and gradually gains height across broad, open terrain. Short stretches of woodland punctuate the otherwise open landscape; the route covers around 260 metres of elevation gain in total.

About halfway along, the route reaches its highest point at 1,565 m, not far from Zuestoll. It then turns back towards Sellamatt. The descent initially continues across pastures, before the forest begins to close in around the trail. Towards the end, the slopes become gentler again, and the buildings of Alp Sellamatt come into view. After just under three hours, the winter hike ends back at Berggasthaus Sellamatt, just a few steps from the Alp Sellamatt stop.
