01/ Overview
The route
On the way from Chäserrugg over Rosenböden high plateau winter hikers enjoy a breath-taking view to six countries and 500 summits.
The winter hike starts at the Chäserrugg stop at just over 2,250 m, a few steps from the summit restaurant. Chäserrugg is the easternmost of the seven Churfirsten peaks and lies between upper Toggenburg and Walensee. The highest point of the circuit is therefore reached right at the start.
From the summit area, the route traces a wide loop through open terrain. At first it descends gently, losing around 90 metres of elevation over just under two kilometres. At its lowest point, the open high plateau still lies at just under 2,170 m; Tristencholben remains well away from the circuit.
The route then turns back and climbs steadily to the starting point. After around three kilometres and just over an hour, the winter hike ends back at the Chäserrugg stop, near the summit restaurant.
