01/ Overview
The route
The stage is closed until further notice. High-level path on sunny Lötschental slopes, through fragrant flower meadows and forest. Stunning views into the valley, impressive peaks and glacier panorama. Bathe in the Schwarzsee and read about Lötschental legends on panels (German). A classic hike.
From the Stafel bus stop, it is around 200 m to the starting point at Lauchernalp. At just over 2,100 m, this is already the highest point of the hike. The yellow-waymarked trail leads across open meadows and pastures. Despite the overall descent, short uphill sections provide variety, while stretches of woodland repeatedly punctuate the open slopes.
After around five kilometres, the route reaches Tellialp. Restaurant Tellialp stands directly beside the trail and is ideal for a break. The gentle descent then continues, now alternating more frequently between pasture and forest. Towards the end, the trail descends more steeply once again, leading down to Fafleralp. The bus stop of the same name is located directly at the finish. Just over two and a half hours should be allowed for the nine-kilometre hike; around 220 metres of ascent are matched by approximately 560 metres of descent.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
There may be snow on this hiking trail. Bring appropriate gear and plan accordingly.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
