Walliser Sonnenweg, Stage 2/4

An age-old trail leads to the quaint village of Albinen in a superb location above the Dalaschlucht (gorge); along the way, the ancient hamlets of Brentschen, Engersch and Jeizinen also sit on the sunny slope, linked by peaceful hiking paths.

The starting point is just a few steps from the Leukerbad, City bus stop. Following yellow waymarks, the trail leaves the village and leads to Flaschen, where Hotel Restaurant Flaschen stands directly on the route. Shady stretches of woodland then alternate with open meadows, while Albinen provides a striking village landmark.

Beyond Albinen, the route continues with gentle ascents and descents. Shortly after the halfway point, it reaches its highest point near Horlini at around 1,600 m. The long descent then begins, leading via Brentschen and Engersch to Jeizinen. Woodland and open slopes continue to shape the scenery.

From Jeizinen, the hiking trail heads steadily downhill. Shortly before Gampel, the Spitzesteinen Chapel stands directly beside the trail, and after around 23 km the destination is reached. About seven and a half hours should be allowed for the entire hike; approximately 1,000 metres of ascent and 1,750 metres of descent require stamina. The Steg VS, Bäckerei bus stop is just under 100 m from the finishing point.
