The route
Challenging ridge and high-altitude hike from Gilbach to Sillerenbühl, across open alpine pastures to the Rägeboldshore, past the Brenggen reservoir — about 11 km, just over three hours.
The tour starts at Gilbach (Höchsthorn) and winds up into the mountain across wide alpine pastures. The path climbs through varied terrain, passes the Alp Trachsel and reaches, via the Hüendersädel, the rocky sections below the Rägeboldshore. The highest point is at about 2,070 m; the path requires sure-footedness and stamina, with roughly 480 metres of ascent.
The descent leads over the Bummerepass to the small Brenggen reservoir, whose water surface forms a quiet contrast to the ridge. Afterwards the route passes the Berghotel Hahnenmoospass and finally reaches the Geilsbüel on the Sillerenbühl. The route should be planned at about 11 km and just over three hours of walking time; the partly rocky and exposed sections make the hike demanding but give it a pronounced mountain character and open views.
