Höhenweg Elsigenalp–Adelboden

This scenic and varied hike in the heart of the Bernese Oberland undulates over various different Alps. The High-Altitude Trail (Höhenweg) with its 180-degree mountain panorama into the Engstligental valley and all its further reaches is suitable for all the family.

From the Elsigenalp bus stop, the trail passes the Berghaus and continues to Brandsee, which lies directly on the route. The mountain hiking trail then climbs across open meadows and pastures. The broad expanse of alpine pasture characterises the first part of this ten-kilometre hike.

After around four kilometres, the highest point is reached at about 1,870 m. The long descent to Bonderalp now begins. The Berghaus lies directly beside the trail and is ideal for a break. The route then leads increasingly into the forest. The narrower mountain path later becomes an easier hiking trail and steadily loses elevation.

Towards the end, the forest gives way to the first houses of Adelboden. The destination is in the village centre, close to the late-Gothic village church dating from the 15th century. The Adelboden, Post bus stop is just a few steps away. A good three hours should be allowed for the hike, which involves around 400 metres of ascent and 840 metres of descent.
