01/ Overview
The route
A cross-country skiing experience on a snow-sure trail through the unspoilt landscape of one of Switzerlandâs largest moorland areas, surrounded by stunning mountain scenery with the Hohgant and Augstmatthorn peaks.
The trail begins at LÀgerstutz on the Lombachalp, directly beside the Habkern, Lombachalp-Roteschwand bus stop and the car park. From the houses, the circuit heads out onto open alpine pastures. After a short descent, it climbs steadily, reaching its highest point at around 1,600 m after just over two kilometres. The summit of Winterröscht lies well away from the route.
The terrain then becomes flatter again. The trail crosses broad meadows and the moorland landscape of the Lombachalp. It continues in a steady series of ups and downs close to HeitbĂŒel before turning back towards LĂ€gerstutz. A good two and a half hours should be allowed for the ten kilometres, with a total ascent of around 180 metres. Finally, the circuit closes back at the Habkern, Lombachalp-Roteschwand bus stop.
