01/ Overview
The route
Following the Emme, the cross-country ski trail runs from Bumbach to Kemmeriboden and back. Across the open valley floor, there are views of the Hohgant, Schrattenfluh and Schibengütsch.
The start of the trail is only a few steps from the Bumbach, Bödeli PostBus stop. It is groomed for both classic cross-country skiing and skating. From the schoolhouse, it leads out across the open terrain near Sägerei and Schwandweid. The route follows the Emme up the valley, with the Hohgant, Schrattenfluh and Schibengütsch forming the mountain backdrop. Just under two hours should be allowed for the roughly seven kilometres. The gentle ascent leads towards Kemmeriboden; a short distance from the trail stands the Kemmeriboden-Bad country inn, renowned for its meringues.
Shortly afterwards, around the halfway point, the loop reaches its highest point at just under 1'000 m. The trail now turns back, alternating between pastures and short stretches of woodland as it gradually descends via Schwand. Near Alpenrose, the houses of Bumbach come back into view. After one final level bend, the loop ends in Bumbach, around 400 m from the Bumbach, Alpenrose bus stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
