01/ Overview
The route
Go cross-country skiing in the home patch of an Olympic medal winner: the local trail of skiing legend Sepp Haas is nestled in the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch. Skiers enjoy extensive views of the impressive karst terrain at the foot of the Schrattenfluh.
Not far from the Schangnau, Wald bus stop, the cross-country ski trail begins by the hamlet of Wald. After just a few minutes, it reaches its highest point at around 950 m; the route then leads gently downhill across open meadows and pastures towards Marbach. On the edge of the village, it passes the Ranch-Beizli and the parish church of St. Nikolaus.
Beyond Marbach, the houses quickly become fewer. With gentle ups and downs, the trail winds through Geissenmoos and out into the expansive hilly landscape. Just before Wiggen lies the lowest section of the route, at just under 800 m. A few more climbs follow, but overall the route loses around 100 metres in elevation from start to finish.
From Wiggen, the trail continues through open farmland to Escholzmatt. After reaching the first houses, it makes one final loop through meadows and residential areas. After 15 kilometres and just under four hours, it ends at Escholzmatt railway station.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
