01/ Overview
The route
A gently undulating cross-country skiing circuit through the moorland of the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch, with mountain views of the Schrattenfluh and Brienzer Rothorn and a starting point directly at Berggasthaus Salwideli.
The Zopf trail starts at Berggasthaus Salwideli above Sörenberg. The starting point is not served by regular public transport; the nearest stop, Hinterschwarzenegg, is around 2.4 km away. According to the operator, the Salwidelibus connects Salwideli with Rischli, which can be reached by PostBus from Schüpfheim.
From the mountain inn, the roughly 5.5 km circuit leads into the moorland of the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch. Along the marked trail, expansive moorland alternates with open meadows. The trail is groomed for both classic and skating techniques. Via Salwiden, the terrain remains gently undulating, with around 100 metres of ascent in total. Along the way, views open up towards the Brienzer Rothorn, the Schrattenfluh, the Tannhorn and the Hohgant.
In the final third, the trail climbs near Wagliseichnubel to its highest point at around 1,400 m. It then descends gently back to Berggasthaus Salwideli, which is reached again after just under an hour and a half.
