01/ Overview

The route

A short cross-country skiing circuit through the moorland of the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch, with gentle climbs and unobstructed views of the Brienzer Rothorn, Schrattenfluh, Tannhorn and Hohgant.

The trail starts at Bergwelten Salwideli in the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch, away from regular public transport services; the Hinterschwarzenegg stop is around 2.4 km away. A connection from Sörenberg, Skilift Rischli, is provided by the Salwidelibus. The Berggasthaus Salwideli stands close to the starting point. The short circuit winds through the moorland and across open terrain with only gentle gradients. Along the way, there are views of the Brienzer Rothorn, Schrattenfluh, Tannhorn and Hohgant.

In the second section, the trail climbs gently to its highest point at around 1,400 m. It then returns to Salwideli in broad curves. Over a little more than four kilometres, the differences in elevation remain modest. The circuit can be skied using either classic or skating technique; for a longer outing, it can be combined with the Zopfloipe. After just over an hour, the trail ends back at Bergwelten Salwideli.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
