01/ Overview
The route
From the Storegg pass to the Schluchigrat ridge with views of the Bernese alps and the Titlis. The Wagenleis canyon is the geological highlight of the tour. After a root-covered passage, the Holzwang chapel commemorates the French raid of 1798. A panoramic view of the alpine chain and ten lakes awaits you on the Stanserhorn.
The hike begins on Storeggpass, well away from public transport. The nearest stop, Melchtal, gedeckte Brücke, is just over two kilometres away. A good five and a half hours should be allowed for the 13 kilometres, with around 1'300 metres of ascent and 1'150 metres of descent.
From the pass, the white-red-white waymarked mountain path climbs via Lachengrätli to the high ridge. Near Schluchberg, the route reaches its highest point at around 2'090 metres. Open meadows and pastures then characterise the long high-level trail. It continues in a succession of ascents and descents to Arvigrat before beginning a longer descent.
The lowest section of the hike lies around Ächerli. Stretches of woodland now alternate with open terrain. The path climbs once more via Chrinnen and leads to Stanserhorn. Shortly before the destination, the revolving restaurant lies close to the route. The hike ends directly at the Stanserhorn station.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
