01/ Overview

The route

The Säntis cross-country ski trail is one of the most snow-sure cross-country trails in the area. It meanders through a varied, unique landscape at the foot of the Säntis Mountain, following the path of the Luteren stream.

The roughly seven-kilometre trail starts just a few steps from the Ennetbühl, Rietbad bus stop. From the houses in Rietbad, the circuit crosses open meadows. The first section climbs steadily, reaching its highest point at around 970 m after just over two kilometres. The elevation difference remains modest, but the gentle ups and downs set the rhythm.

The trail then descends in a wide arc. Towards the end of the descent, the route passes Boden before climbing gently once more. The terrain remains gently rolling and largely free of settlements. The route crosses open ground on the way back to Rietbad. After just under two hours and around 160 metres of ascent, the circuit closes at the starting point near the Ennetbühl, Rietbad bus stop.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
