01/ Overview
The route
The cross-country skiing trail at Alp Sellamatt offers a lot of sun and a mystical natural landscape in the lap of the Churfirsten. The view goes far down into the lowland, which lies in winter often under a fog cover.
The start of the cross-country ski trail is just a few steps from the Alp Sellamatt stop. The Sellamatt mountain inn stands close to the starting point. The circuit begins at around 1,390 m and initially crosses the open expanses of the alp; a short distance along, there is a barbecue site beside the trail. As the route gains height, open pastures alternate with sections of forest.
The trail climbs gently to the halfway point, though the gradient is noticeable in places. After about five kilometres, it reaches its highest point at around 1,570 m near Zuestoll. From here, the return leg begins, gradually descending through open terrain and forest. The full circuit involves around 280 metres of ascent.
Towards the end, the terrain opens out again at Alp Sellamatt. After around ten kilometres and just under three hours, the trail finishes back at the starting point, a few steps from the Alp Sellamatt stop.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
