Sardona-Welterbe-Weg, Stage 4/6

Through wild, rocky valleys with views of pretty mountain lakes and spectacular geological phenomena, the trail climbs over 1,300 metres in altitude. The Batöni waterfall arena, a narrow suspension bridge and families of marmots and ibexes enliven the hike.

A long, demanding mountain hike into the Calfeisental begins at the Weisstannen, Oberdorf bus stop. The white-red-white marked trail leaves the village, initially passing through forest and briefly following the Gufelbach. Several waterfalls dominate the surroundings in the Batöni basin before the ascent continues across open pastures into increasingly rocky terrain.

After just over three hours, the Heidelpass is reached. The mountain trail now continues along the northern slopes of the Calfeisental. The Plattenseeli, situated directly on the route at around 2,320 m, is a worthwhile place for a break. Shortly afterwards, the hike reaches its highest point at just over 2,420 m near the Fahnenstock. Rocky slopes then alternate with open Alpine pastures as the trail gradually traverses towards the Sardonaalp.

After just over seven hours, the 16-kilometre tour ends at the Sardonahütte at around 2,160 m. It stands at the head of the Calfeisental and is named after Piz Sardona. The total ascent amounts to around 1,900 metres. There is no public transport connection at the hut; the nearest stop, Cassons, is just over 4 kilometres away.
