WALSA-Weg, Stage 2/4

This route passes through wild Alpine vegetation, rising up to Alp Gampidells, along steep slopes to Vermol with its chapel and onwards to Chapfensee in the heart of a protected moorland. The barren and stony Kleinberg gives way to the lush Flumserberg.

The starting point at Garschlu lies some distance from public transport; the nearest stop, Maienberg, is just over 300 metres away. Right from the start, the yellow-marked hiking trail climbs to the highest point of the route. At around 1'230 m, near Garmil, the long initial ascent is complete. Open meadows and pastures then alternate with shady stretches of woodland.

With plenty of ups and downs, the route leads to Vermol and onwards to Chapfensee. The small reservoir lies directly beside the trail and, roughly halfway through the hike, provides a welcome interlude. A little later, the route passes the barbecue site on the wooded shore.

Beyond the lake, the terrain remains undulating. The trail runs through woodland and open countryside, passing Restaurant Sässliwiese, and gains a few more metres of elevation before reaching the destination. After 24 kilometres and a good seven hours, this stamina-demanding hike ends in Flumserberg. The Flumserberg, Bergheim bus stop is located right by the endpoint.
