01/ Overview
The route
An interesting round trip through legendary countryside. Miracles of nature, history and culture come to life along this worthwhile route, which focuses on the mystical Tamina Gorge.
From Bad Ragaz railway station, the circular hike initially leads through the village and soon enters the forest. Following waymarked hiking trails throughout, the route climbs steadily. After just over three kilometres, the Schwattenfall barbecue site offers a first opportunity for a rest. Shortly afterwards, Altes Bad Pfäfers lies directly on the route.
Beyond Ragol, the landscape becomes more open. Meadows and pastures accompany the continuing ascent to the highest point at around 920 m near Pizalun. The trail then descends towards Pfäfers. Near the village, the route alternates once more between settlement and forest; the ruins of Wartenstein stand a little off the route on a rocky outcrop above the Rhine Valley.
The final section leads through the forest and via Fluppi back into the valley. Approaching Bad Ragaz, the houses draw closer to the trail again before the circuit ends at the railway station after 13 kilometres. Just under four hours should be allowed for the 480 metres of ascent and the entire route.
