Ellhorn Rundweg

The varied Ellhorn hike offers surprising views of the villages on both sides of the Rhine and of the surrounding mountains. The flowering pastures in the Elltal valley are just as charming as the paths high above the Rhine.

The eight-kilometre circular hike begins in Mäls, a district of Balzers. The starting point is not served directly by public transport; the nearest stop, Trübbach, Fährhütte, is around 1.7 kilometres away. Initially, the hiking trail climbs between open meadows and stretches of woodland. After just under three kilometres, the route reaches its highest point near the Heidenkopf at around 670 m. By this stage, most of the total ascent of around 260 metres has been completed.

The route then continues along a mountain trail. It winds through the forest, its rougher character adding variety. Nearby stands the distinctive Ellhorn, 758 m high and separated from the Fläscher Berg by the Elltal. The summit itself, however, lies off the route. Towards the end, the path widens again and leads out of the forest back into open countryside. After just over two hours, the circuit ends in Mäls. From the finishing point, it is also around 1.7 kilometres to the nearest stop.
