5-Seen-Wanderung Pizol

Mountain walk with unequalled panoramas. High above the tree line, an extensive mountain path passes through an ever-changing alpine landscape. Main features are 5 crystal-clear mountain lakes and views over the UNESCO site of Sardona.

From the Pizolhütte stop, the white-red-white waymarked mountain trail climbs through open alpine pastures to Wildseeluggen. As it gains altitude, the meadows give way to a barren, rocky mountain basin. Before long, Schottensee lies directly beside the trail, resting at just over 2,300 m north of the Pizol summit.

The route then continues to climb to its highest point at just over 2,500 m. At roughly the halfway point of the ten-kilometre route, the long ascent is complete. The descent leads through rocky terrain and across open slopes to Schwarzsee. The mountain lake lies in a basin framed by Schwarzchopf and the Schwarzseehörner peaks.

The route continues over rocky ridges and alpine pastures to Baschalvasee at just under 2,200 m. This lake with no surface outlet on the northern slope of Pizol is the final notable resting point on the nearly four-hour tour. From here, the mountain trail once again descends significantly to Gaffia mountain station, where the hike ends after a total descent of around 1,000 metres.
