Seeland-Solothurn-Weg, Stage 4/4

This stage leads along the Emme's lovely, secluded riverside path to Solothurn on the Aare. Industrial buildings contrast with opportunities to spend time by the water. In Solothurn, by its own account, Switzerland's most beautiful baroque town, numerous sights await you.

From Bätterkinden railway station, the yellow-waymarked hiking trail leads out of the village. Before long, it passes Schloss Landshut, a moated castle that now houses the Swiss Museum of Wildlife and Hunting. The route then continues through open fields and stretches of woodland. For a short time, it follows the Limpach. After a gentle ascent, the highest point at just under 500 m is reached shortly beyond the Alpenblick viewpoint. This route climbs little higher than that.

Via Biberist, the trail reaches the Emmekanal and follows it for almost four kilometres. This long waterside section defines the second half of the hike, with settlements, open spaces and woodland alternating along the way. Towards the end, the route passes through the Widiwald and continues to Solothurn. The destination is reached after 17 kilometres and just over four hours. The Solothurn, Vorstadt stop is just under 200 m away.
