01/ Overview
The route
Solothurn, known as a magnificent baroque town, also has picturesque spots on the River Aare to discover on this route. The riverside path quickly leaves the bustling town behind and takes you into a relaxing natural world.
This short link between town and forest begins at Solothurn railway station. The yellow-waymarked hiking trail initially passes through residential areas before open spaces break up the urban start. With no significant ascent, the route continues towards Zuchwil.
After a good two kilometres, the trail enters the Widiwald. Beneath the trees, the walk takes on a distinctly woodland character. At around 430 m, this is also the highest point. On the almost level route, however, this slight rise is barely noticeable.
Towards the end, the trail emerges from the forest into Zuchwil. After a total of around 3 km and approximately 40 minutes, the walk ends at the Zuchwil, Sportzentrum bus stop. This makes the route ideal for a short walk between the two places: easily accessible, largely level and with a pleasantly green final third.
