01/ Overview
The route
This leisurely hike from Oberdorf to Grenchen along the edge of the forest offers lovely views. One of the highlights is the Lommiswil quarry which is littered with dinosaur tracks.
From Oberdorf SO railway station, the route initially crosses open meadows and pastures. The yellow-marked hiking trail climbs gently and, near the Gitziflue, reaches its highest point at around 720 m after just the first section. The hike is then characterised by a long, gentle descent. With a total ascent of around 200 metres and a descent of 420 metres, it remains pleasantly moderate.
Woodland and open sections alternate along the way. Roughly halfway along the route, Lindenplatz lies directly beside the trail, with a fire pit ideal for a break. Later, the first houses draw closer, and at Allmend the route passes the chapel. The final section runs through the built-up area of Grenchen. After around twelve kilometres and about three hours, the hike ends at Grenchen Süd railway station.
