Jura Crest Trail, Stage 6/16

From the roof of Canton Solothurn, with views across the Jura arc to the Mittelland and snow-capped Alps and on through forests and typical Jura meadows. The first third is also a Planetenweg (planet path). Language border at Montagne de Romont.

The Weissenstein stop is around 300 m from the starting point. Initially, the trail climbs through alternating woodland and open Jura pastures to Hasenmatt. After almost five kilometres, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,440 m. Hasenmatt is also the highest elevation in the canton of Solothurn.

The almost continuously yellow-waymarked hiking trail then follows the long Jura ridge. Passing Stallflue, it alternates between pastures and stretches of woodland before reaching Obergrenchenberg. The largely open ridge defines the middle section; despite the easy trail, its length calls for stamina.

Beyond Stierenberg, the long descent towards Plagne begins. From there, the route continues downhill to Frinvillier and ends directly at the stop in the village. Around seven hours should be allowed for the approximately 24 km and 1,500 metres of descent.
