01/ Overview
The route
This panoramic loop tour across the Solothurn heights leads from Balmberg via Röti to the Weissenstein summit. Here, you will be able to enjoy clear views from the Säntis all the way to the Mont Blanc. Via Schofgraben you return to the starting point.
The eight-kilometre circular hike begins at the Oberbalmberg, Kurhaus bus stop. The broad hiking trail climbs steadily across open meadows and through sections of forest. Around 420 metres of ascent must be tackled before reaching the highest section.
After just under three kilometres, the route reaches Röti. At almost 1,400 m, it is not only the highest point of the circuit but also the highest elevation in the Weissenstein range between Weissensteinpass and Balmberg. Its open location makes it a rewarding viewpoint. The trail then continues with gentler ups and downs to Weissenstein, passing directly by the Kurhaus.
The return route heads back into the forest before later emerging onto open pastures. With no technical difficulties, the circuit ends on Balmberg after a little over two and a half hours. The Oberbalmberg, Kurhaus bus stop is just a few steps from the finishing point.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
