01/ Overview
The route
This is an easy hike, following one of the many paths of the so-called pastoral migration. Humans and animals kept moving around, depending on the season, always in search of water. The loop trail explores the sophisticated antique irrigation system and ends with the emerald green waters of the Verzasca river.
From the Lavertezzo, Paese bus stop, the roughly eight-kilometre circular route initially leads through the village and past the parish church. Soon, the white-red-white marked mountain path enters the forest. The longest ascent of the hike climbs steadily uphill, with meadows and pastures opening up along the way. After a little over two kilometres, the highest point is reached near Föpia at around 930 m.
The path then gradually loses height and reaches the small settlement of Motta around halfway through the hike. The route passes directly by Osteria Motta. It now follows a yellow-marked hiking trail downhill through forest and more open terrain. Via Aquino and Oviga, the circular route approaches Lavertezzo again; shortly before the village, Grotto al Ponte lies close to the trail.
After just under three hours, the hike ends back at the Lavertezzo, Paese bus stop. The route involves around 500 metres of ascent in total.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
