01/ Overview
The route
A scenic hike through the wildest valley in the Lake Maggiore region. Enjoy the Onsernone Valley's tranquillity on old paths. Dense forests, waterfalls and hidden rustici line the route. The views extend over the deep valleys to Lake Maggiore.
Spruga is the starting point for this demanding mountain hike to Comologno. The path, marked throughout in white-red-white, climbs steeply, alternating between forest and open meadows and pastures. A large proportion of the total ascent of around 1,150 metres is gained over the first few kilometres. The route later crosses Pizzo Zucchero before continuing uphill through more open terrain.
After a little over three hours, the mountain path reaches Laghetto dei Salei, which lies directly on the route. Shortly afterwards, near Munzelum, it reaches its highest point at just under 2,000 m. The long ascent is now complete. The ensuing descent leads back through pastures and forest, and the mountain path once again demands concentration. Towards the end, the houses of Comologno draw closer, where the twelve-kilometre hike ends after a little over five hours.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
