01/ Overview
The route
A sustained uphill route: from Wiesenberg, the trail climbs almost 860 metres through meadows and forest to just below the summit of the Stanserhorn.
The starting point in Wiesenberg is some distance from public transport; the nearest stop, Wirzweli, is just over a kilometre away. The trail begins gently between the houses, but soon gains height rapidly. It crosses open meadows towards Blatti before forest increasingly comes to dominate the slope. Almost the entire route follows a mountain trail marked in white-red-white.
Around 860 metres of ascent must be tackled over just under five kilometres. The long climb remains the defining feature right to the end, finishing after a little over two and a half hours at 1,845 m at Wiesenberg (Stanserhorn). Just a few steps away are the Grand Tour Switzerland viewpoint and the Stanserhorn revolving restaurant. The actual summit of the Stanserhorn, Stans’s 1,897 m local mountain, rises slightly higher up. The Stanserhorn stop is only around 35 metres from the endpoint.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
