01/ Overview
The route
This scenic mountain hike leads from Wirzweli via the Ächerlipass and up the steep slopes of the Chli Horn to the Stanserhorn.
From the Wirzweli stop, the trail begins among the houses of the village of the same name. It passes the chapel and initially runs almost level before beginning to climb at Hinter Huismatt. At Langbodenstübli, the broad opening section comes to an end; the mountain trail now ascends through meadows and alpine pastures to the Ächerlipass.
Beyond the pass, the ascent becomes steeper. The Chli Horn draws closer as the trail climbs steadily; on its eastern slope, steps assist over a steep section. Higher up, views open out towards Obwalden. At Chrinnen, most of the ascent of just over 600 metres has been completed, but the mountain trail continues to climb towards the Stanserhorn.
After just under three hours, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,850 m and ends at Wiesenberg (Stanserhorn), near the Stanserhorn stop and the revolving restaurant. The actual summit of the 1,897 m Stanserhorn lies a little off the route.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
