01/ Overview
The route
The Geo Trail climbs from Wirzweli across open pastures towards Stanserhorn. Nineteen panels on rocks, geological folds and plants accompany the long mountain trail to just below the summit.
From the Wirzweli stop, the route initially leads through the houses and out onto open meadows. Before long, the hiking trail becomes a mountain trail and climbs towards Gummen. Along the way, nineteen information panels on the Geo Trail draw attention to the geology and botany, particularly the rock formations and folds.
After the initial ascent, a longer stretch of ups and downs across pastures leads to Ächerli at around 1,400 m. The second, steep climb begins here. The mountain trail gains height steadily and reaches just over 1,800 m at Chrinnen.
From Chrinnen, the route continues up the flank of Stanserhorn, the local mountain of Stans. Near the Wiesenberg destination, it reaches its highest point at around 1,850 m, just below the 1,897 m summit. The trail ends at the Stanserhorn revolving restaurant; the Stanserhorn stop is just a few steps away.

How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
