01/ Overview
The route
This stage leads down to Seedorf following the Swiss Path (Weg der Schweiz), which comes from Rütli and leads via Flüelen to Brunnen. The whole route and the Rütli are visible on the descent to Bauen. Interesting small castles and mansions along the route.
From the Seelisberg, Dorf bus stop, the yellow-waymarked hiking trail initially leads through the village. Early on, Schillerbalkon and Marienhöhe provide opportunities for short breaks to enjoy the views. Alternating between woodland and open meadows, the route continues to climb, reaching its highest point at Brandegg at around 870 m. Shortly afterwards, the small Beroldingen Castle stands beside the trail.
The ensuing descent leads to Bauen and down to Lake Lucerne. The character of the route now changes: instead of panoramic heights, the long middle section is defined by the lakeshore, wooded slopes and small settlements. The trail continues farther up the valley via Isleten and Bolzbach.
Towards the end, the landscape opens out again in the Reuss Valley. Meadows and the edges of settlements accompany the final kilometres to Erstfeld, where the hike ends near the railway station. A good six hours should be allowed for the 24 kilometres; despite the greater overall descent, the intervening climbs add up to around 440 metres of ascent.

Reusssteg

Oberhalb der Reussmündung in den Urnersee verbindet der Reusssteg, eine Brücke von 38 Metern Länge auf dem Weg der Schweiz, die Gemeinden Flüelen und Seedorf. Zwei markante Bögen aus Brettschichtholz bilden das Tragwerk der Brücke. Sie sind den Witterungseinflüssen in besonderem Masse ausgesetzt und müssen nach einer Betriebsdauer von über 35 Jahren umfassend saniert werden. Während der Bauphase ist die Brücke für den Langsamverkehr gesperrt. Bitte benützen sie die Umleitung.
