01/ Overview
The route
The Lac de Neuchâtel is crossed by boat. Imposing Mont Vully is visible from afar. Short but steep climb. Wonderful panorama. Through the fertile shoreline forest of Le Chablais to the medieval town of Murten.
The approximately 19-kilometre route begins at the Neuchâtel boat landing. Lake Neuchâtel dominates the opening section before the trail crosses the open countryside around Cudrefin. At Grand étang, the route once again runs close to the water.
Beyond La Sauge, broad meadows and pastures alternate with stretches of woodland. The yellow-marked hiking trail now climbs to Mont Vully. The highest point of the route lies at around 650 metres. The ridge between Lake Neuchâtel, Lake Biel and Lake Murten is known for its panoramic views of the Alps, the Jura and the three lakes; vineyards are also a defining feature of its landscape.
After the ridge, the trail descends again and heads towards Murten. The final kilometres pass through gentler, increasingly settled countryside. After just under five hours, the hike ends near the Murten/Morat stop. In total, around 320 metres of ascent and descent must be tackled.
