01/ Overview
The route
An urban walk linking a pilgrimage church, new housing developments and green open spaces: the route leads from Seebacherplatz to the Katzenbach, briefly crosses the city boundary and continues through Leutschenbach to the Örlikerhus.
From the Zürich, Seebacherplatz stop, the urban walk initially leads to the Maria Lourdes church. Its adjoining chapel is modelled on the Lourdes Grotto; the parish church is regarded as a Catholic pilgrimage site in the city of Zurich. Between older parts of the neighbourhood and newer housing developments, the route climbs gently to its highest point at around 465 m before continuing to the Buntspecht adventure playground.
The surroundings become greener at the Katzenbach. The trail follows the stream for just over two kilometres, passing the Schärenmooswiese and crossing open spaces between the housing developments. Along the way, the route makes a brief detour beyond Zurich’s city boundary. From the open terrain, there are views across to Glattpark and Glattparksee, which lies around 100 metres off the route.
On the final section, the high-rises of Leutschenbach and new cooperative housing developments dominate the scene. The route leads through Leutschenpark, back into the dense urban neighbourhood and on to the Örlikerhus. The Zürich, Oerlikerhus stop is located directly at the destination.
